Jeff was born and raised in Evanston, WY, where he was deeply influenced by his grandfather, a respected psychologist at the Wyoming State Hospital. His grandfather’s compassionate approach to caring for people without judgment played a crucial role in inspiring Jeff to pursue a career in clinical social work.
In 1996, Jeff served a mission for the LDS church in Chicago, IL. Raised in the LDS church, it significantly shaped his early beliefs and values. However, this experience also brought challenges, particularly in reconciling his faith with his sexuality, leading to feelings of guilt and shame. Jeff’s departure from the LDS church in 2020 marked a pivotal point in his personal and professional journey, allowing him to fully embrace his identity.
Jeff’s initial interest in television/radio broadcasting shifted towards social work, influenced by his parents’ divorce and his desire to make a meaningful impact. He pursued Child and Family Studies, followed by a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work.
In 2004, Jeff married Casherie, his best friend and colleague from the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Their shared dedication to helping others led to fostering children in need and establishing a group therapy practice. They were married for 20 years.
Embracing his identity as a gay man has been a significant part of Jeff’s journey, reflecting his commitment to living authentically.
Professionally, Jeff began with a focus on trauma treatment and was board certified in neurofeedback through BCIA. However, he has since shifted his career focus. No longer offering neurofeedback services, Jeff now dedicates his expertise to working with the Department of the Navy in Washington DC, supporting military families with his extensive clinical social work experience.
Jeff also maintains a private practice, providing services to Utah residents. His work concentrates on issues like identity, self-confidence, depression, and anxiety. His approach, influenced by his grandfather’s example and his own life experiences, emphasizes empathy and understanding.
Jeff’s career, marked by diverse experiences and personal growth, exemplifies his commitment to helping others. He continues to make a significant impact in the field of clinical social work, within the military community and through his private practice.
